I had always felt unhappy with my size and had no motivation to become fitter, I had been struggling with my weight for 20 years and with some success over the years unfortunately I had never succeeded with my weight loss and had returned to a default of being overweight.
Due to my size I couldn’t join in with activities with my children which of course was deeply upsetting, that coupled with my now high blood pressure, joint paint and being a borderline diabetic I realised I had to take action!
I had become exhausted with the Yo-Yo dieting and being seen as everybody’s fat friend. My father had passed away at a young age due to having heart disease which raised my concerns even further. I was saddened at the idea of not being able to see my grandchildren grow up.
I had discussed my options with my GP before eventually deciding to go private as I believed this to be the best for my situation. After searching through different companies and possibilities I had decided to contact The NOSC and made contact with Andrew one of their patient advisors.
Andrew talked me through everything I needed to know and answered any and all of my questions I had, this put my mind at great ease as a weight loss procedure can seem daunting until you speak to a professional who knows exactly what they are doing. For the first time in a while I was confident I was on the right track to a new beginning.
I attended Ross Hall Hospital for my procedure and was greeted with friendly staff and the surgeon, I was told what to expect in a clear and straightforward manner and was extremely happy with the care and attention I received.
My recovery was surprising fast and was walking for exercise within a week but due to having a physical job I didn’t get back to work until 7th week. The length of the walks increased on a daily basis which helped me gain my confidence and stamina. The support I have received after my procedure has been fantastic and any questions I had were answered and if they couldn’t clarify during the call they would get back to me as soon as possible with an answer.
I feel like a new man and since the procedure and subsequent weight loss it is now the grandchildren who cant keep up with me rather than the other way around. I started at 26 Stone and I came down to 14 stone which was my target, I couldn’t have done this without the help of NOSC, without the support I received I don’t think I would have reached my goal weight. They were encouraging without being judgemental and supportive. I feel that I could ring them at any time with any concerns or questions.
My only regret is not having this procedure 20 years ago.
